My wife and I were watching something on TLC regarding tummy tucks. They showed the surgery and we wondered what they did with the skin. Is it discarded? Do they use it for anything? Could they use it for people that need grafts?

I suppose the person getting the tummy tuck could request to donate their skin to a burn victim. This should be done before the surgery though so that a.) they could find someone who needs the skin, b.) make sure the donor is a match, and c.) put the skin on ice right away during the surgery. (Can’t just scoop it out of the medical waste bin when you are done.)

Im thin but my stomach has tons of stretchmarks and a little loose skin from pregnancy. Anyone have a mini tummy tuck? Was it worth it? Even if I have one my stretchmarks wont go away but will be less wrinkled looking.

I have lost a huge amount of weight and am looking to get the excess skin removed. I was told that Duke, Columbia and some other teaching school associated with burn centers do this surgery at low costs if you donate the excess skin for them to use as skin grafts

No, when you get Liposuction the insicions are so small there is no need for a stitch, plus if you get the most common “super wet technique” which shrinks blood vessels and enlarges fat cells, the excess fluid drains from those incisions for the next few days. After that those little incisions heal very well! If too much skin is the issue, then Liposuction isn’t the correct answer and it will not remove skin, that would be an Abdominoplasty. You can continue eating however you want, but the fat cells will accumulate in other parts of the body, so use caution with high fat/carb intake.

With all the hype over Heidie Montag and how she looks now. I was wondering about this question. When people get plastic surgery then, it almost seems they look plastic. But what is it about this surgery that makes the skin look plastic. Because after all, it is skin but, after the surgery the skin almost doesn’t look like skin anymore.. It would be laser…no plastic surgeon will perform an operation for your condition.

The cost? It’s all related to the area being treated. You can go see a doctor and ask for a consultation. That will give you an idea on the price
