Some cancers have partly genetic origins - if your mother has breast cancer, you are more likely to get breast cancer, etc etc. Oncologists always ask if there is a familial history of the type of cancer that the patient is suffering.
My belief is that if you're gonna get it, you're gonna get it. It doesn't matter what you do.

It is estimated that 10-15% of lung cancer cases are diagnosed in people that have never smoked. Unfortunately, most of these patients are women, and it has become increasingly more common for non-smoking women to be diagnosed with lung cancer. Statistics show that 1 out of 5 women diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked, compared to 1 out of 10 men.
Do you drive a car? there is more cancer causing chemicals in the exhaust fumes than in smoking cigarettes. Did you know that E numbers in our food can cause cancer. Aspartame has been shown to cause cancer in rats at levels approved for human consumption.(artificial sweetener) I could go on for hours listing them all but search food additives and you will never eat again.Did you know that food additives can make you fat, give diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and cause hormone imbalance. As for breast cancer, it can be caused by drinking alcohol and any of the above

I had a cancer when I was 12 and I was completly healty.
I can tell you why I had a cancer, it's all because of emotions and psychological.
I'll explain what happen the best I can:
I was young and my way of thinking was a bit different. You see, I was thinking that my parents hated me and all my family too. I was afraid of talking to them, afraid of taking food out of the fridge, afraid of simple things. Afraid of showing my emotions to them and being my real self. Of course, I didn't loved my self.
So, at 12, in sixth grade in elementary school, I got ill. It was because I had really good friends that year, I was really having fun and everything was great. I began to be myself, changing my way of thinking about everything. But, you see, my negatives thoughts add to get away from me once and for all.
Let's say my negatives thoughts was so huge, so deep, so present, that they needed to just go. And since I never cried about my fear or talked about it, those thoughts never got away from me. And so, the only way it could, way physically.
And so, a began to develop a cancer. That masse was all my negatives thoughts and now they are for away from me, I'm not afraid of my parents and I'm not as sad, depressed, angry like before. I am cured now, cured of my own confused self.
That is one of the ways to develop a cancer, I don't wish that for anyone.
MESSAGE TO PARENTS: BE THERE FOR YOUR CHILD (damn it!)

We all possess a gene for cancer. Even scientist don't know why some get it nd others don't. Cancer cells don't care how young you are or how healthy you are. If it manifest itself, then it will. Its almost like they have a mind of their own. My sister-in-law never smoked, always ate well and at 33 developed breast cancer which later traveled to her lungs and killed her. it is no respecter of anyone. My own sister never smoked either. In fact she's the only one who didn't. She developed breast cancer and 15 yrs later got brain cancer. No one knows why, we can only hope that scientist can pin point the whys someday. Be blessed
