As the man, the woman may lose her hair, sometimes for reasons shared with the men, sometimes for reasons well known and specific to the female, more rarely, for reasons that still remain unexplained. In women hair loss can be divided into two groups: the acute hair loss and chronic. In the first case come into play factors such as family or professional stress, trauma following an accident, surgery, a prolonged fever, the intake of certain drugs, such as chemotherapy. Specify only the woman, the hair loss following the birth is relatively frequent and almost always reversible in a period varying from four to six months.

The chronic loss of hair is, as its name indicates, a drop that lasts forever, or is renewed. It is of different origin, sometimes with a known etiology, often with unknown etiology. This type of hair loss is often (etiology known) in the presence of diseases of the thyroid gland, following a strict diet or when the body suffers from iron deficiency or due to repeated treatments aesthetic very aggressive. In these cases it is sufficient or adequate treatment, the suspension of the trauma (repeated and permanent dyes, for example) to stop the process. Among the causes of unknown origin, are those that involve the entire scalp.
Unlike man, in which the region of the crown remains intact in terms of density, baldness in women is widespread, and includes this region. The transplantation depends upon the hair style, length of the hair-whether having short hair and long hair and various other factors of importance. The mechanism for this type of fall is not clearly defined, and this loss may start very early and worsen over time with just a rhythm to each individual. In other cases may arise a problem particularly acute at the top of the head, while the donor area, as well as the front edge, it is of good quality. In this case the clinical picture is similar to that normally found in humans, and is the basis for androgenetic alopecia in women, which meets the classification of Ludwig.
This type of baldness is almost always present at the time of menopause, and is explained by the decrease of female hormones and therefore a relative increase in male hormones that women produce in small quantities, and which exerts a negative effect on the hair.
The transplantation of women hair can find its application in the case of a predominant thinning at the top of the head, with an area relatively free donor pathological process. This case may occur if dell’alopecia of women in menopause or perimenopause, the indication of transplantation is justified and the results are, as in the case of man, excellent. The baldness of the young woman, the more difficult to understand, is even more complicated to treat due to the presence of a donor of low quality. In these cases it is good that the patient consult other professionals – for example, the psychologist, the dermatologist, a gynecologist el’endocrinologo, which will propose an appropriate treatment following the results of specific biological analysis. These treatments may in principle have good results on the loss of hair at the top of the head, but in all probability remain without effect on the hair of the crown. The hair transplantation may really enhance the facial beauty of women
