Female breast reduction (sometimes referred to as reduction mammoplasty) is a surgical operation to reduce the weight and volume of a woman’s breasts. Your genes, hormones, body frame and weight determine the size of your breasts and most women’s breasts are in proportion to their body. However, some women have particularly large breasts which can cause problems such as discomfort, backache, neck pain and skin irritations.

Large breasts can cause psychological problems as well. They may also mean that a woman can’t wear fashionable clothes, or take part in particular sports. Some women have asymmetric breasts – one larger than the other – and this can also lead to psychological problems.

Breasts are especially sensitive to the hormone oestrogen, which means they can grow particularly large during adolescence, or following the menopause. If a woman is using Hormone Replacement Therapy that can also cause her breasts to grow.

During a breast reduction operation fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed from the breasts, which are then re-shaped. The nipples may also be re-positioned. For women who are unhappy with the weight, shape or droop of their breasts, the operation can make them smaller and more lifted. Remember though, that breast size alters with your body weight, so even after an operation your breasts may still grown if you put on weight or become pregnant.

As breast reduction is usually done for cosmetic reasons, it’s not generally available on the NHS. However, if the size of your breasts is causing you psychological problems – or if there could be physical benefits from breast reduction – then it may be possible to have the operation performed on the NHS. The best place to start is by talking to your GP, as they will need to give you all the necessary referrals.

The Cost of Liposuction
Cosmetic surgery has made a drastic jump in popularity over the last few years, and one of the most popular types of this surgery has been Liposuction. It’s incredible jump in popularity has bee sue to the fact that Obesity is on the rise, and Liposuction is a quick fix solution to help eliminate that excess body fat. Although it does accomplish the desired results, there is a heavy cost involved. It’s a cost to your pocketbook as well as your body in itself.

Obviously, with the current economic situation, the first concern for most people considering Liposuction is the cost involved from a financial point of view. Like most cosmetic surgeries, it is a very expensive procedure. Contrary to popular belief, Liposuction is not just a procedure that is done on the stomach. This is a procedure that is available for multiple areas of your body, so the costs can vary depending on which area of your body you need the excess fat removed from. Prices will also vary depending on the surgeon you go to. The prices seem to vary from $1,500 to sometimes as high as $10,000. Since the procedure can be performed on multiple areas, the costs can continue to add up. Multiple procedures can lead to multiple thousands of dollars. It is a very big drawback to some that consider this as an option.

No matter if the procedure is in your price range or not, it is very important to also remember that this is a surgery, and the ramifications to your body can be even more hazardous than what it will ever do to your pocketbook. There have been reported cases of complications from this procedure that although mainly superficial, can still make one take a second and step back to reconsider. The whole idea of Liposuction is to help make you look better, and regardless for how minor the issues that can result from the procedure, they are still a consideration.

Astigmatism is a disease condition where there is a refractive error in the eye of the affected person. This error in the eyesight can lead to a blurring of the vision. The cause of this is that the cornea which is also called the lens has a irregular curvature. In a person with a normal cornea, the lens of the eye is smooth and has a perfect curve. On the other hand, a person suffering from astigmatism may have a defective or abnormal curvature in the cornea.

In the presence of a refractive cornea, there is difficulty in looking at objects and identifying them clearly because these objects all seem blurred. The light that falls is not refracted as it should be because of the abnormal cornea and so the image of the objects that are recognized by the retina is blurred. This blurred vision that people with astigmatism suffer from can be corrected by certain simple methods.

Though few people try to correct the blurred vision with contact lenses, many people prefer the Laser surgeries that help to correct the eye defect completely. In case of contact lenses, you will have to repeatedly change the lens and also clean it and maintain it. On the other hand, the Laser surgery is a onetime treatment and once it is completed, you need not worry about the astigmatism at all.

There are commonly three different kinds of Laser surgeries that are performed to correct the astigmatism. One of these is the LASIK surgery that is the most popular treatment available. In this surgery, a precision surgical blade called as the microkeratome is used to make the incision and the cornea is accessed through this incision. The LASER is used to then smoothen the cornea and restore it to its normal smooth surface. This causes the refraction error to be corrected and normal vision is restored to the affected eye. As in any eye surgery, antibiotic drops are prescribed for you to prevent infection of the operated eye.

Other than the LASIK surgery, LASEK surgery is also commonly performed for the correction of astigmatism. The difference is that in this surgery, the epithelial layer of the cornea is also preserve, but otherwise, the correction of the refractive error is the same as LASIK surgery where the cornea is reshaped to make it smooth.

The other common Laser eye surgery for astigmatism is the PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy, which is also done using Laser. The outer surface of the cornea known as the epithelium is removed in this procedure and the surface of the cornea is corrected.

There are also other lesser common kinds of Laser surgeries that are done in conditions when there is severe astigmatism. One of the procedures that are done when the refractive error is very high is the Laser surgery known as the wavefront. This is not commonly used to treat astigmatism because of the very high cost of the surgical procedure. Though this is a very expensive procedure, the precision is very high and the procedure is also very effective in treating astigmatism.
