“Women who have had breast enlargements or what is also called breast augmentation surgery, mammoplasty or breast implants may wonder if they can still breast feed their infants. Whether or not a woman can still breast feed after surgery depends on they type of surgery she has had and whether there is inhibitive scarring, nerve damage, or damage to the milk ducts in the breast.
If the breast surgery was done in such away that the implant was put in from under the breasts or near the armpits of the woman, there is a good chance they have been put in behind the milk ducts and it may not be a problem for the mother to breast feed. If the the surgery was done by slicing around the mother’s areolae, then there is likely nerve and milk duct damage that may prevent breast feeding from being entirely successful. A woman with this sort of implant surgery may be able to partially breast feed, but she may not be able to produce a full and sufficient milk supply for her baby.
With saline implants, since the saline, or salt water, is a natural substance found in the body, it isn’t thought to expose the baby to any risk if is should leak or get into the milk supply. There is still incomplete data and information on other types of breast implants. While silicone is no longer recommended for breast implants, there may still be women who have had such treatments. It is thought to be highly unlikely that the silicone from the implants will leak into the mother’s milk (and silicone is available in other environmental ways too.)
All breast enlargement surgeries produce some degree of scarring in the breast. The degree to which this affects the milk ducts and the nerves within the breast really depend on each individual woman’s situation. It may also depend on how recent the surgery is–some women have been known to “grow back” milk ducts that have been affected by surgery, but this is not terribly common.”

The answer is a resounding yes. For the vast majority of women who have breast augmentation, breastfeeding is no more difficult with implants than without. In fact, some women who have breastfed before and after they had implants put in say that breastfeeding with implants is easier!
