Unfortunately there are no good treatments for this disease. It is only the very rare person who is identified very early on in the course of mesothelioma AND is healthy enough to undergo surgery who can be potentially cured. The surgery involved (called an extrapleural pneumonectomy) is a very morbid and difficult procedure performed by only a few dedicated chest surgeons across the country. Chemotherapy and radiation may temporarily slow the growth of mesothelioma but in general do not prolong life. It is a horrible disease and if you know someone with it my prayers are with them.
